Temporarily increase how often a GT1C device reports its location to help locate moved, misplaced, or potentially stolen equipment.
Applies to: GT1C devices in Geoforce Ascend
Overview
GT1C devices normally use a battery-saving reporting schedule. When you need to locate an asset quickly, you can temporarily increase how often the device reports its location.
How it works
Select a higher reporting frequency for a limited period. At the end of that period, the device automatically returns to its standard battery-saving schedule.
Important: More frequent reporting uses more battery. The automatic reset helps prevent the device from remaining on a high-frequency schedule longer than necessary.
Set a reporting schedule
1. Find the asset
- Go to the Map view.
- Search for the asset and select it from the list.
2. Open Device Settings
- With the asset selected, select More, then choose Edit Asset.
- Open the Device Settings tab.
3. Choose the reporting schedule
- Under Device Settings, select Set Reporting Schedule.
- From the Reporting Schedule list, choose how often the device should report.
Available GT1C reporting profiles
- Fixed Interval, 1 message per day
- Fixed Interval, 2 messages per day
- Fixed Interval, 4 messages per day
- Fixed Interval, 8 messages per day
- Fixed Interval, 12 messages per day
- Fixed Interval, 24 messages per day
- Fixed Interval, 48 messages per day — the highest available frequency
Automatic reset period
The Reset Device Reporting Schedule after setting determines how long the temporary schedule remains active before returning to the standard profile. Customer-selected high-frequency schedules can run for up to one week.
Contact Geoforce Support if you need a different reset period or a reporting schedule that does not automatically reset.
4. Add a note and submit the command
- Optionally enter a description explaining why the schedule was changed, such as Turned on to locate trailer lost in the field.
- Select Update Device Settings.
What happens next
- The command is queued and sent to the device.
- The device begins reporting at the selected frequency after it receives the command.
- At the end of the selected period, the device automatically returns to its standard battery-saving schedule.
Check the command status
On the Device Settings tab, scroll to the Configuration Log. The log shows each command sent to the device and whether it has been applied.
| Column | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Date/Time | When the command was submitted |
| Command | The action sent, such as Set Reporting Schedule |
| Setting / Notes | The selected profile and any note that was added |
| Status | Pending means queued or in progress. Failed means the command was not applied and should be sent again. |
| Submitted By | The user who sent the command |
Frequently asked questions
Does more frequent reporting affect battery life?
Yes. Reporting more often uses more battery. For this reason, high-frequency schedules are temporary and automatically return to the standard schedule.
Can I leave a device on a higher reporting frequency permanently?
Not through standard customer self-service. Contact your Geoforce representative or Geoforce Support to discuss a custom reporting configuration.
Can I see on the map whether a device is using a recovery schedule?
No. Ascend does not currently display the active reporting profile or a recovery-mode badge on the map. Check the Configuration Log to review the command that was sent.
Is the process the same for other Geoforce devices?
The general workflow is similar and is located under Edit Asset → Device Settings. Available commands and reporting profiles vary by device type.
Need help?
Contact your Geoforce representative or Geoforce Support if you need a custom reset period, a non-resetting schedule, or help applying the command.
